CarPlay for BMW: the verdict

About BimmerPlay Check

Can your BMW get Apple CarPlay? Depending on the model, the year and the iDrive screen, CarPlay is already there, just needs activating, or requires an add-on box. BimmerPlay Check gives you the answer before you pay anyone.

A CLEAR VERDICT
Your car is placed in one of five situations: CarPlay already there, factory-prepared, can be activated by code, hardware to check, or add-on box only. For each one: the steps to follow, an indicative cost and how confident the verdict is.

NO ADAPTER NEEDED
Enter the model, the production year and what your screen shows. Paste the option list you get from your VIN: the app picks out the useful codes by itself (6CP, 606, 609, 6U2, 6U3…).

WITH AN ADAPTER
Plug an ENET adapter (Wi-Fi or cable) or an OBD Bluetooth adapter into the diagnostic port. The app reads the VIN, identifies the iDrive unit (EntryNav2, NBT Evo, MGU), the activations and the options. It is read-only: nothing is ever written to the car.

EVERY CAR'S HISTORY
Each diagnosis is saved. Compare the state before and after coding or an update, car by car.

A PRACTICAL GUIDE
Where to find the VIN, how to get the option list, where to look for the CarPlay menu in iDrive, and the possible solutions explained simply.

Good to know
• BimmerPlay Check only diagnoses: it does not activate CarPlay and does not generate activation codes.
• The latest models (iDrive 7 and 8) have CarPlay as standard; the app confirms it.
• Costs are indicative ranges, in euros, to help you compare quotes.
